Big Fish, Little Fish … everyone knows a little authority can be pushed a long way, or, as our friend ElenaTiriel had it in the forum some time ago:

“Lords, especially merely mortal ones, can be so demanding at times ...”

This week take Elena’s word for it and drabble about Demanding Lords (what they’re demanding is entirely up to you) and if your favorite ‘verse is lord-free feel free to substitute bosses, captains, emperors, sith lords or whoever else holds the reins and likes to thrash them about a bit.

In recognition of the snow currently blanketing the Eastern US, feel free to play Old Man Winter or Mother Nature and trap your favorite characters in some inconvenient circumstance: what do they talk about? What do they not talk about? Do they take the opportunity air differences? Cast off inhibitions? Or focus single-mindedly on a way out? This week, get -

    Snowed In

Think the Fellowship in Caradhras, a shuttle full of Serenity crew during “Out of Gas”, any castaway of Lost at one time or another. Torture or Titilate as you prefer.

  • "Monthly Short Fiction Challenge #2: Epiphany" by NancyBrooke

    Started 15 Dec 2009: Ended Thu Jan 14, 2010 11:00 pm

My grandfather, a tall, imposing elderly gentleman and former college professor, always used to ask this intimidated little girl “what did you learn in school today?” And, when I would stammer some reply, would gently encourage me to “learn something new everyday”. So, as we approach a new year – and new decade – let me encourage you to give your characters something new to think about, be it the big ‘A-ha!’ or the intimate ‘I see’, through a tale of

  • "OSA Drabble Challenge #127: Rules" by Viv

    Started 30 Nov 2009: Ended Sun Dec 13, 2009 11:00 pm

I came here to tell how it's going to begin. I'm going to hang up this phone, and then show these people what you don't want them to see. I'm going to show them a world without you. A world without rules or controls, borders or boundaries. A world where anything is possible. Where we go from there is a choice I leave to you.

This week, let Neo and Viv inspire your characters to play by the rules, or break every last one of them, except for these:

Drabbles must be 100, 200, or 300 words. Deadline will be in two weeks on Monday, December 14, 2009.

Green Fairy, Dutch Courage, Aphrodisiac, Poetic Muse: Alcohol. This week we take our inspiration from the bottle (and NeumeIndil) and drive ourselves to drink, that loosener of tongues, of morals and of clothing. It may just be sugar, water and yeast but it has inspired gods, poets and would-be suitors since time immemorial. Let’s see how it can inspire you to drabbling – not dribbling – about

    Alcoholic Inspiration
