Feanaro "grasping a falling snow flake and finding only a droplet of water" ... well, that about sums it up, eh? Snow as a metaphor for purity even in Arda marred resonates, and you've incorporated it well in this scene. The characterizations were a little thin, but that is probably just because of lack of space. In all, a poignant moment between the two. Thanks for posting, and for entering the challenge!

You've managed to fit quite a few meaningful ideas into such a short story - Maedhros's fascination with the purity of the snow (I can relate with him, I've always found something very stirring about a snowy landscape - I've used it in stories myself), Feanor's inability to 'grasp' the purity of the snow but also the fact that its purity can't quite hide the darkness of the path awaiting them, and then the foreshadowing of the Battle of Sudden Flame. You drew an intriguing picture with this story.

Liked it alot. Just a short side trip on the journey of life. It is the side trips that make the journey worthwhile.

*sighs* it was wonderfully melancholy but it fits with the theme of winter. Esp. snow b/c everything seems to be soooo soo quiet. Wonderful job
