Chapter 1
New York suburb of Belleview

“Joshua Reinhardt you get over here this instant!” Yelled his mother Joan O’Brien as she usually did to get his attention.
Through the blast of the speakers of his handheld game console he heard his mother’s call “coming mom!”
Joshua came upstairs to where her mother was waiting right at the bathroom’s doorstep.
“How many times have I told not to leave your clothes on the floor, pick them up right now and finish packing, I have to drop all of you at your father’s house in about half an hour so get on with it” his mother told him lowering her voice just a bit.
Joshua complained “Aww! Mom, do we have too?”
“Yes you do Sweetheart I know you guys don’t like to go to your father’s house but the court decision was final and we have to abide by it. Besides it’s only a weekend every 2 weeks.”
Sighing Joshua complied as his mother called on the rest of his siblings….
“Mathew, Janet hurry up you 2”
The fraternal twins responded in unison “We are ready mom”
In a few minutes they were all in their mother’s car heading toward their father’s house located in a manor on the outskirts of the city. Traveling with them was their trusty German Sheppard Gerald which they had adopted about 2 months earlier from a shelter. Gerald however was no ordinary dog he in reality was a Narnian dog sent by Aslan himself after the renegade Narnians. Gerald whose real name was Starlight remembered the event as clearly as it had been yesterday.

Narnia, just before the last battle…

Starlight came into Aslan’s tent as requested “You summoned me, milord?” he said bowing respectfully down in Aslan regal presence...
Aslan glanced at him with loving eyes as he responded “There’s something you must know that the others still don’t my beloved Starlight. This will be Narnia’s very last moments after this battle all of it shall be gone and all those that are with me I shall bring with me to my father’s kingdom.”
“We all knew that one day it would come to this, for everything that has a beginning has an end.” Starlight replied solemnly
Aslan smiled as he continued to explain “Indeed but the reason I summoned you here is to tell you that you won’t be going with us. At least not yet, for there’s a task yet to be done…”

“Milord?” Starlight replied back feeling confused.

Aslan explained “As we speak there’s a few renegades that are about to escape into the world of the humans and their plan will be to remake Narnia in their own twisted image. I shall send you so you can help the humans stop their plans for it will involve their elimination from the face of their world. You will have to remain anonymous and not show your true identity to the humans until the time comes.”
Starlight was intrigued “And how will I know that?”
“Don’t worry, trust me you will. You will be placed in an animal shelter where latter a family shall adopt you. This is the family that you are to help in defeating the renegades and their ploy
, I warn you my good servant it won’t be easy, humans could be pretty cruel toward creatures they consider inferior and you will not have others of your kind for the dogs of the human world are not sentient, I however can also assure you that the family that will adopt you will love you and you will love them right back.”
Starlight was feeling a bit uneasy “Any other tips before I go?”
As Aslan raised his mighty paw he replied “Yes, don’t ever go into a bathroom lest you want to actually drink water from a toilet!” as Aslan finished his sentence Starlight felt the ground beneath him opening up and he fell through it and all of sudden emerged from a wall into strange surroundings…

An alley in downtown NYC 2 months earlier…

Starlight senses where overwhelmed by the stench of garbage and he saw rats the size of cats scampering around, as he turned into a corner a noose fell on his neck making him yelp in anguish. He was dragged into a strange vehicle of some sort the likes of which he had never seen. It wasn’t pulled by any horses or other creatures as the vehicles he was accustomed too. He was placed in a cage inside the vehicle along with other dogs as the doors of the vehicle were slam shut.
He felt the vehicle making a strange noise and then beginning to move and pick up speed. The journey was bumpy and it ended about half and hour latter.

Belleview NYC Animal shelter half an hour after Starlight’s arrival:

Again he was noosed and dragged into a room filled with individual cages, on the opposite side was a glass door and on it he saw his reflection for the first time and what he saw surprised him in this world he was a pup about 6 months old! He had heard stories from the Pevensie’s as to how when they had returned to their place of origin they had returned just as they had come into Narnia as children instead of full grown adults and so on. But it was the first time he was experiencing it himself and to say the least it was truly weird! His thoughts were interrupted as he was unceremoniously put in one of the cages.
The smell of misery and death permeated the place and Starlight had never felt so utterly helpless or alone, as he sat there in the poorly lit room he claimed to Aslan in his mind “Give me your strength dear Aslan!”

Belleview NYC Animal shelter 2 days after Starlight’s arrival:

Starlight’s first days on Earth were harsh, he was prodded and he had been pinched with needles in his hindquarters. He had overheard the humans referring to them as rabies and distemper shots whatever the heck those things were it did not matter to him what mattered to him was that they hurt like hell. As brave a ranger as he had been in Aslan’s army he could not help it and found himself whimpering like a pup which ironically at least physically if not mentally he was. Again his thoughts were interrupted as he heard the distinct footsteps of humans coming down the opposite corridor A few seconds latter a bright eyed kid no older than 9 stood at his cage smiling, Starlight felt relieved to see a friendly face for a change and instinctively he happily wagged his tail.
Joshua Reinhardt looking for a pup in the shelter along with his siblings and mother had come to see what he thought to be the cutest German Sheppard puppy he had ever laid eyes across. “Hey mom, Janet, Matt look what I just found!”
Janet came shortly followed by Matt and their mother to the cage that Joshua was kneeling at.
“Oh my Josh! That’s a pure breed German Sheppard pup. In any pet store it would cost no less than 200 dollars or more to buy one. Aww he is adorable! What do you think mom?”
Mathew knelt beside his brother “I think we won’t find a better dog to adopt in this whole pound mom, we should go for it”
Joan sighed “I believe you are all right, it’s a surprise to find a pure breed pup like that in a place like this” she then addressed the caretaker “We will take the German Shepard puppy”
The caretaker smiled “You guys are indeed lucky, he was brought in just a few days ago somehow wondering the backstreets of Manhattan. The oddest thing is he did not have mange or any other diseases that most stray pups usually have. We reckon some heartless bloke must have abandoned the poor guy just hours before we found him. He wasn’t even malnourished!”
Janet feeling outraged by where the pup was found added “You mean to say that some heartless fool just dropped him on a backstreet in Manhattan to die. That’s horrible I’m so glad you guys found him so soon.”
The caretaker smiled at her as he took Starlight out of the cage, Starlight could not be happier to be out of that cage and being still a pup he could not help but to involuntarily urinate as he was being taken out. He felt his face getting hot because of how ashamed he was at not being able to even control his bladder. The caretaker mused “Well at least we know you can put out a fire if we need too, don’t you little fellow?”
The comment just made Starlight feel even worse but he knew he could give away under any circumstances who or what he was until Aslan were to indicate to him somehow the right time. Of all the things he once was and had, all he now had left was his faith.
The caretaker addressed the children as he was about to hand them the pup “Now listen here, a pet is not a toy but a serious responsibility kids. Is an oath you make between yourselves and God to take care of this wee one for the rest of his life you hear?”
Joan added “I gave them the lecture about responsibility already but thanks”
The caretaker replied “No problem as I said you guys are very lucky in fact I believe it was faith that brought you here today to adopt this little one, you were meant to adopt him!”
Matt asked “You really believe all that?”
The caretaker a bit puzzled answered “Well yes, why? Don’t you believe in God and miracles?”
Matt feeling a bit annoyed replied “I used too but now I don’t know what to believe in anymore…”
The caretaker looked tentatively at Matt and asked him “Why is that?”
Matt felt uncomfortable being asked about such things as he replied “What business would it be of yours to know that?”
He was instantly scolded by his mother “Joshua don’t be rude apologize to the man right now”
Josh sighed “Fine I’m sorry but I really don’t like to be questioned about those things, if you must know I believe that if God existed he would not have allowed for Dad to become a mobster and to try to separate us. He would still have a decent job and he would still be with mom and Grandpa and my uncle would not have died in the Twin Towers ok! That’s what I believe! Happy now?” as he hurriedly walked out
Janet sighing deeply spoke “I’m sorry for that we have been through very rough times as you heard sir”
The caretaker replied solemnly “No problem miss, take care and God bless”
