Would the Nazgul have the same effect (mind-numbing fear) on the Haradrim as they do on Hobbits, Rohirrim and Gondorians? or, because the Haradrim hold allegiance to Sauron, could they be unaffected? or little effected?

At the Battle of Osgiliath (yes, still on that ...) Boromir says (in the coucil of Elrond) that the Haradrim made the difference in defeating them; and in Peoples of Middle Earth Tolkien writes that the Battle was in part to get the Nine across the Anduin ... So, if the Haradrim are first to break through the Gondorian lines, would they then become incapacitated when the Nine come roaring on through?

(And, just imagine ... all Nine at once Outta here )

Any thoughts?

Oh, plenty, my dear. But they wouldn't help you Wink <grin>

And with that, I'm off to bed.

Hmm, I seem to recall, that it is stated that Sauron's army fought more ferociously out of fear of the Nazgul. Though I don't remember anything specific about the Haradrim.

I helped Al with this a while ago if Nazgul would breathe, with that came also the power to cause fear reflecting on anyone nearby, so that would include the Haradrim as well I presume. Bits of that came out of HOME and the Letters of Tolkien.

Just to back up my ramblings with an actual quote from the book
(had to dig my English version of LOTR up from the dusty vaults of my parents)

Boromir talking at the council of Elrond about the loss of Osgilliath:
" But this very year, in the days of june, sudden war came upon us out of Mordor, and we were swept away. We were outnumbered, for Mordor has allied itself with the Easterlings and the cruel Haradrim; but it was not by numbers we were defeated. A power was there that we have not felt before. Some said it could be seen like a great black horseman, a dark shadow under the moon. Wherever he came a madness filled our foes, and fear filled our boldest ......"

Thanks, Sirannon. That was actually helpful. I always took that statement to mean just the orcs ..., and that the Haradrim tipped the balance Hmmm must reconsider ...

Actually, considering how the Haradrim fit in the Osgiliath scenario more closely has made me rethink the much my proposed plot, and now I'm going back to my military advisor with further strategy questions. grrrr argh ... this story will be the death of me yet ... Rolling Eyes
