After her mother? I do not know. I would rather not, for if you do not pay attenntion, it could easily seem forced, and it should be - especially when you are naming a high princess - a pure and correct Sindarin name.

Yups and is known that the Dunedain renamed their children to elves from legends. For example Finduilas of Nargathornd - Finduilas of Dol Amroth. Voronwe - the Steadfast (of Gondolin) Voronwe Mardil Steward of Gondor. Be sure that the elf in question no longer lives though.

Originally there was also a Boromir of Ladros (first age, a descendant of the hous of Bor), then there was a Steward named Boromir (son of Denethor I). Denethor II was named after his grandfather Denethor I, who was named after Denethor of the Nandor (who got killed at Amon Nareb during the first battle on Beleriand)...

So my suggestion is, dive into the appendices and become inspired. There is a wealth of information in there.

Ugh. My computer got the nastiest virus ever and then I moved, so I haven't been here in a while.

I'll make sure to root through the appendices and see what I can find.

Would Araniel work, though? If I'm right it means daughter of kings, so its fitting.

Sindarin has some unusual rules for plurals. Vowels change, etc. 'Araniel' would mean 'daughter of a king.' 'Daughter of kings' would be 'Ereiniel.' (Ereinion, Gil-galad's other name meant 'son of kings.')

However, I've read that all the Dunedain chieftains had the 'Ar' prefix to their name. Would they have given that prefix to a girl? Search me! Question

To be honest, Sindarin names give me a headache. Laughing

Aragorn is actually Noldorin and is interpreted to mean "Royal/Kingly Valor" so the feminine equivalent would be Aragorneth, Aragornel, Aragornil or Aragorien.

I think Aragorien actually would make the most sense for a female Aragorn...
