One of the most amazing works about Finarfin, of whom there are few, that I have ever read. This whole short story is so bloody gorgeous and just rips me to shreds every time I read it.

The brilliance of that Silmaril threatened to pale the sun itself, for no light in all of Eš could compete with the singular radiant power of the jewel of FŽanor. (The Silmaril of Earendil as he entered Tirion upon Tuna)

He swayed in the saddle as grief and loss overtook him; the pale moon bearing witness, casting its dim false light upon the trail while the stars glistened like Niennaís tears upon the sky. Dropping the reins, he buried his face in his horseís mane and wept for the loss of his four beautiful sons. (Finarfin fighting the acceptance of the loss of his children)

Maglor Redeemed's Arien I will never understand why this got c-blocked on the stars, it is so lovely. This one line says so much, I thought it was pretty amazing.

For long ago she rose into the sky
To bear that orb, forsaking paradise.

Elliska Jane's newest fic:
On the Amon Ereb lay the bodies of many Orcs. Amongst them lay Denethorís green banner, still clutched in the hand of the Elf that had born it. An arrow pierced his chest. The banner partially covered the body of its King.

Cellon dropped to his knees and gathered his cousinís body into his arms as the battle raged around him.

Can't read it without crying. Her battle scenes in this are perfection.

Note: when copying URLs, there is no need to copy the session ID. This is only visible to those that have cookies disabled (for some bizarre reason) or after the first screen (small programming quirk).

When someone clicks on those links above, it will try to validate themselves as Ghetto. Fortnately it will fail, but still saves some cutting and pasting.

The elves could see in the dark, it appeared, and they smiled up at the stars as if the glittering sparks were old friends.

Though I could list almost every line in Viv's spectacular 'Promises', I chose this, on Aragorn's death:

"Legolas sets a hand on Gimliís stout shoulder as Estel, hope, is interred for evermore."

This is probably the best thread we've had so far and we should definately keep it going. Thanks for reviving it!

These are ones I noticed during MEFA reviews -

Rhapsody's Oaths Foresworn
Quote:
It would not be long now.

ĎWe held true, did we not Kano? But was it all worth it? What world am I leaving my family? Who will look after them?í Amrod hung onto him, fighting for every single bit of life left in him.

ĎI promise you, Pityo. I will look after them.í The words almost choked him, how could he, Maglor, take on another Oath?

This dreadful oath came at such cost and pain.

Another Rhapsody - Letters in the Sand
Quote:
Torment/Nwalme

I remember her betrayal. I remember her anger and the burning of my skin, tendons and refined touch. I remember how her essence shortly mingled with my fŽa, the force set upon me, filling my mind with one thing as punishment. The jewelís spirit taunted me, ripped my already tenuous mind into pieces, while I only knew one way out, to throw her far away from me. When I sensed how the calm water enveloped me, cold stone collided with my knees and my burned hands clutched together while I tried to hold onto my mind, now filled with torture.

Eek gotta get back to work but I'll come back with more later Very Happy

From "The Still Point" by Stultiloquentia

Aragorn and Arwens first night as husband and wife. Very poignant story.

http://www.openscrolls.net/fanfic/story.php?no=2101

Quote:
"Deep in the black night she rose above him, and he pulled her down and rolled so that he covered her, and it seemed to Arwen that time lost hold, spilled out like stars in an hourglass sky and in one immeasurable moment she was everything: mortal and immortal, fast bound and ripped in twain; yearning and ecstasy merged and melded within her."

"At the river, we were met simultaneously by Faramirís men and the repellent sound of hollow drums and harsh horns, forced together from the parts of who-could-say-what living things, cracking like a whip on the back of the wind."

Viv's "Whom the Sword Devours". It's that whip cracking bit that just made me sit up and say "Ooh, I like it!"

*Embarassed*

Yeah, what ^ Al said.

(Guess I just have Viv on the brain. My sincere apologies, NB. I got distracted, or I'm naturally blonde at the roots or something. That awesome line is most definitely your brain child.)
