What if you do both (or either)? Very Happy

Well, I think the point of this was to take folks out of their comfort zones, so they could learn something about their writing habits and stuff.

Which means you'd probably have to write Haldir smut or something.

Make that vapid Haldir smut. Movie-based. With at least one OFC (preferably with violet eyes).

Yeah.

For Nancy, I think typing with her eyes shut and submitting the results before she checks the grammar would only be fair. Hiding behind the sofa Outta here

ah. ok. I think I misunderstood the challenge.

Writing outside your 'zone is a good one, but I'm not sure how that would work for me since I'm not sure I really have a zone... I pretty much write 'whatever', and I've done both freeform and structured. Confused

I think one of the best drabbles I wrote was one where Viv and I picked each other's characters. So maybe everyone who signs up gets a character selected by someone else?

I have seen it argued, and I know there are exceptions, but I think it's a good, basic rule of thumb that a story should be about something.

surviving loss
finding strength in compromise

Hmmmm Hmmm you know, I was actually thinking of something smaller that this - it wasn't just metaphor when I wrote "nut" and "kernal" above. My work, at any rate, I think, is about small moments, or very finite ideas/questions, not grand over-arching concepts. For example, the thing I'm working on right now (pre-SSP Cool ) isn't about parenting so much as about a moment of parenting choice. And I don't think that whatever central core you have has to be profound, either, it just has to be there.

oops - I meant to reply to this one and lost it.

I agree the theme could be on a smaller scope. I certainly don't think they have to be epic or grandiose.

Oooh, that would be helpful. At least I would feel like I had somewhere to start.

You can write with your eyes shut, like Nancy. Twisted Evil

Just joking. I really do think the both of you are that good. As the Cat in the Hat says, you could write with your eyes shut tight. (paraphrased)

Does that sound right?

Yeah, that's kinda how I thought it would work. Isn't that sort of how they do the Stocking Stuffer Swap, etc.?

I can see a slight difficulty for organic writers (nicely phrased btw Viv) being able to cleanly break type b/c there's still such a freedom of topic choice. But, the Planners need the wiggle room, so unless someone else sees a way 'round it, it's probably not a big concern. I've run into a wall of "Okay, do I write Merry/Estella, Pipin/Diamond, OCs and if so from where and when, bad guys? To smut or not to smut?..." I have nothing to start planning because I can't decide where to start!

Then looks like Al has the fix for everybody then: we get a character assigned to us, have 1 month to write in a way opposite our general process, turn them in to be numbered and sent to a randomly assigned beta for a going over before posting.

Succint.

Who wants to be in charge of this thing?

And the conversation comes to a screaching halt ... Wink

I would happy to be involved - I would love the inspiration - but have next to no time until mid June. I could help after that Confused Embarassed .

And if I have to write Haldir, I definately will need to prepare an outline and, you know, an actual character Twisted Evil

I think Neume should have to be in charge. It was her idea. Wink
