A room of one's own?
A comfy chair?
Music?
Absolute Quiet?
Chocolate?
More Chocolate?
Coffee?
Alcohol?
A good idea?

What helps you get your writing done?

This month, with my daughter home and about all the time it has become clearer to me that I need some quiet in my own head to be able to write. To paraphrase Katharine Weber, I find my characters in dialog, and if I can't hear them, I can't write them.

How about you? What do you need?

I find I need a little hope for the day, some quiet, then later, as I'm into the piece, some music to go with the mood of the story.

A checked off "to do" list; for some reason I can't let myself write if I feel like I haven't done anything useful that day. So today I've done 4 loads of laundry, cleaned both bedrooms and the living room, been given an official "move out by XX or I'm going to lose it" date, and been told I deserve the heartache that this last month has been (Thanks, Mother. I'm glad I gave you stretch marks.), so after time with the chinchillas, a shower, and a good hard cry, I'm going to write myself to sleep.

I have the opposite problem I think. RL drama scares the muse away.

Me, too. Hence, the lack of productivity, lately.

I seem to need a certain balance of stress and angst in my life in order have a good creative flow.

I've finally started dreaming again now that I'm getting close to my divorce being final and I think that says a lot about how wrong things have been all these years.

I can journal when I'm having a lot of angst, but not write creatively. I'm not sure exactly what I need to be very creative and to get the good stories, I'm not sure what sparks that. I need to figure it out.

I do know that having some 'other' kind of deadline or pressure seems to make the muse jealous and talky as if she can't stand my focus being somewhere else even when she hasn't been willing to talk. bitch! *ahem*

moving along now....

Ditto. Other than that, I don't know that I need much. I've managed to get a bit of writing done in a noisy bustling newsroom or sitting by the river on my own. So long as there's nothing else worrying me particularly.

ROFL
That's always helpful, innit it.

I get my best ideas after I've turned the computer off and I'm just about to go to sleep. I think my muse just really likes to get on my nerves.

Hmmm music, definitly music. But lately my muses has been rather deaf to any music I play for them, the spoiled little brats that they are. Not even their favorite band Within Temptation can make them talk which is a bad sign, they usually gives me tons of ideas after listening to music by Within Temptation.
I'm kind of worried if their sick or something, the even ignore me when I ask for help with an original storyline that they where all in flames for when I started on it, infact they refused to shut up about it for a long time but now that story only get a shrug and a sigh. Shocked

I need to hear myself think. I need more than half an hour to myself. A little music in the background can work but what type varies a lot. In the last couple of years, I found I can't really write on my own for shit. I just can't get going. So I've been sticking with RPGs... but in the last couple of weeks I started writing with a partner like crazy. We're just churning out stuff. Mostly smut. So maybe the hooking up and the smut are two other things I need? Very Happy

I need a miracle. Rolling Eyes

Or, judging by Saturday night, I need to be in a crappy little town with absolutely nothing to do but finish off a bottle of wine and listen to the boyfriend's mom (gods love her) yammer on about her messed-up family and every other little thing that pops into her head because she doesn't understand how companionable silence works. That, apparently, gets two pages added onto an ill-advised romance novel I started (and stopped) last July for an attempt at original-month NaNo. Most I've written in months. Go figure.

I knew that I should not have swapped the M and U keys with H and I on your keyboard. Makes you type the wrong word completely.

(Goodnight).
