Hi Nancy,

This is a really interesting observation.... I had not thought about how Théoden would still be reeling from the loss of his son during his befuddlement before. It adds a personal note to that powerful scene in the movie.

Theoden interests me more and more: he undergoes such a transformation in the films (haven't read the books in a while so I won't speculate). As a parent, I can only imagine thought of Theodred is never far away from Theoden's mind, particularly as Theodred was killed by Saruman's troops while Theoden was under Saruman's spell. Many many many pennies for the therapy jar there.

Excellent, insightful drabble, Nancy. You've presented Theoden's thoughts in that particular moment perfectly.
