Hello friends,
I live an hour to an hour and a half north of NYC. I was just wondering what the regulations would be if I ere to attempt to get a survival knife. I am 15, but by the time, I get the knife I'll probably be at least 18. Will I need a permit?

I live and carry what I really like. I'll carry a folder, a Gerber Gator 2 in my pockets. I've carried fixed blades and have no intent of harming people. |

Folks, is it really a good idea to be giving weapons advice to a 15-year old? Please consider before answering this post.

I've collected knives when I was younger than that (I'm also a martial artist, so there's that). As long as he obeys the laws, and doesn't hurt anyone...which would be prison and meeting big bob...lol...then it's fine. Anyway, NY has strict sword and knives laws.

Odd place to ask this, but here's the important part for right now:
" - 265.04. It shall be unlawful for any person under the age of sixteen to possess any... dangerous knife...
A person who violates the provisions of this section shall be adjudged a juvenile delinquent. [Found unconstitutionally vague by Superior Court, 1982; finding reversed by Court of Appeals, 1983]"
Dangerous knives are defined as moving blades that lock (switchblade, butterfly, etc.), throwing stars, and knuckle knives.
NY is an odd state, dude. You gotta watch out for yourself. I won't assume that you have more than the basic 3" folding jack knife/multitool now, but you need to CYA and the ass of anyone that might live with you. Looking for this kind of info publicly online = Not Smart. What you should probably do is speak in person to the management of a curio/collectables store after your next birthday.
