We probably all need to take a breath. MEFA rolled in on the demise of Mithril, which probably rolled in on the demise of something else. This fandom has been around a long time. It isn't going anywhere.
And I get it that awards are nice as recommended reading lists and bits-n-bobs that make writers feel better about all the time they've spent in this labor, but frankly, after watching how several of these competitions have just torn folks apart, I'm not sure writing, reading, or fangirling are meant to be competitive sports.

Ya'll? MEFA is gone. We can't change the past. We can't make people "be nice". We can only try to make the next part better. That's it.
I think it's time for some advice from Jimmy Buffett: "Breathe in, breathe out, move on."
I don't know squat about "You Get a Cookie" other than Zhie is involved, but the "Tales of Middle Earth Awards" are allowing all adult and installing as many "Adult Lies Here" warnings as possible, so those who don't want to risk reading about sex and violence won't have to, while those of us that don't mind it have the chance as part of the same fandom.
If you want to help with the decision making, we're in a group on Live Journal:
http://tome-awards.livejournal.com/
An official communique is on the way (once I make a list of who I need to send it to) with more details. It'll be posted in a different thread here on OSA since the MEFA are closed.
Now then, I've got ice, a blender, and all kinds of fruit. Who's for a frozen margarita and who wants pina collada? _________________ An Infinite Source of Pervy Wisdom.

You get a cookie will be based on fic recommendations - of all ratings, genres and styles - over a period of time. You can not self-nominate, someone else nominates and then reviewing begins. There will be standard groupings - best romance, best pairing, best this or that and then there will be seasonal awards.... best tentacle story (yes, that is a current toss up) best awkward/embarrassing sex scene. Zhie MIGHT have a conniption if you nominate Glorfindel/Balrog. That's just Zhie...

The actual forum is being set up and is currently in beta stages and information will be forth coming. I have a link for it, but I'm not sure if it's open to the public yet. It's my understanding it will be up and running by October???
If something BETTER rises from the ashes - something that doesn't blatantly discriminate just 'cuz, good. Great. Let's have a party. Really. I'm all for Eomer jumping naked from a cake. _________________ Zee |

Yeppers and I've pinged Zhie about schtuff as well. I've not been keeping up to date the last week because of real life (job hunt) and rabid nasty bunnies.
But I don't think anyone will complain about nasty rabid bunnies. _________________ Zee |
